FrenchListening:
- listen to instructions, given in French, and pick out the important words so that they can carry out the task - listen to a story in French and find some incidences of cause and effect - use listening strategies (i.e., focus on the speaker, pick out familiar words, pay attention to cues or gestures, etc.) that are posted in the classroom - identify familiar words used to describe the characters within a story Speaking: - speak in French to the teacher when asking questions - speak in French with their peers during work times - participate in spontaneous moments of French speaking - clearly rehearse and perform a small dialogue in French Reading: - read and comprehend books at or above a GB+ Level 9 - use a wide variety of reading strategies during guided reading (i.e., sounding out, predicting, looking for clues within the text, etc.) - highlight important words or information from the text to help them comprehend the text as well as to answer comprehension questions Writing: - attempt to write using complex sentences - use both complex and simple sentences to create a paragraph - use capital letters at the beginning of sentences as well as a period at the end - begin to conjugate verbs correctly in their sentences |

- compare (clothing, food, modes of transportation, education) within selected communities (Tokyo, Lagos, Istanbul & Sao Paulo) around the world. - understand that the world is made up of hemispheres, continents, oceans, countries, cities, etc. - comprehend the concept of the equator. - able to use and understand the concept of a compass (une rose de vents) to indicate specific direction (North, South, East, West). - can identify some of the various physical regions of Canada (topography, climate, bodies of water, etc.) - Shows differences and similarities between Smiths Falls and one of the cities we have investigated in class.
