Homework for Ms. Blair's Class
Homework for January:
In math we are talking about shapes and solids. Talking about shapes and geometry involves simply bringing shapes to the attention of your child. Shapes and geometry is everywhere in our environment. Teaching your child how to tell time will be one of the next topics, as well as introducing the algorithm for adding and subtracting two-digit numbers without regrouping. As always I ask that you read with and to your child as part of a nightly routine. Please find time to do some reading. I am seeing children move up in their reading levels. The more they read the better chance they have to succeed. Emerging readers gain reading skills more quick when they learn the sight words and understand long and short vowel patterns. Little phonics workbooks are an excellent idea or more interactive apps are a great way to build skills. Please send library books on Tuesday and reading books in on Mondays. I try my best to exchange classroom books and leveled books the same day but sometimes I need time in the evening to get the books exchanged. Our library day is Wednesday, but if the books come in the day before we are able to get to the library and back quite quickly. Students are logging onto RAZ KIDS as well, which is great to see. Nightly reading is the main homework that I assign and I know that by reading at home students reading improves dramatically during the year. Thank you for helping with this each week. Attention Parents:
The home reading program will end at the end of May. I will need a chance to collect all of the books before the end of the year. There are some students who have not brought back their books since the first time I sent home the reading books. Could you please send them back after June 1st. Please consider these if you would like to do more at home to support your child's learning in Math and Language.
